B.1966 in NYC, USA. Based in Nîmes, France. Robert pursued his studies at Emily Carr University, Vancouver and Art Students League, NYC. His subtlety surreal figurative painting and sculpture explore the complexities of contemporary culture. Ensuing a career in fashion design, his practice naturally examines social issues of consumerism, the digital world, identity, intimacy, vanity, technology, civil unrest, and transformation. The layered, moody figurative works draw from past, current events and possible futures, myth, popular culture, and art history.
My practice draws on historical, personal, and contemporary culture in order to explore identity through the prism of the digital age on our collective human condition.
Inspired by both historical masters and contemporary culture, I try to create pieces that are at once timeless and contemporary and above all, contemplative
My paintings are characterized by a subtle colour palette, disparate brushwork and technique, capturing a moment of fleeting grace or volatile energy. Sculptures are characterized by organic forms and fluid lines in clay, resin, wood, or marble. I use layered techniques, digital disruption motifs, and various methods to create a paradox within the work, fusing chaos vs order, fragility vs strength, or ephemeral vs eternal. This reflects the complexities and contradictions of human nature and what connects us all, regardless of power, politics, or status.
